Sculptra’s action consists in determining an increase in dermal volume for neo-collagen genesis. For these features, Sculptra, more than a filler, should be considered a “tonic” of connective tissues. Furthermore, this filler does not require allergy tests. After the implantation, the skin conditions immediately improve; this improvement is, however, temporary, because in a few days the water contained in the product will be reabsorbed by the body: the real and effective correction of imperfections is made thanks to new collagen synthesis triggered by Sculptra. This process requires some time for it to show results of the filling effect of imperfections, therefore more sessions are required (generally at least four). The sessions must be planned at an appropriate distance of time; it is likely to have to wait at least six months before the end of treatment.
Sculptra is a biodegradable product of long duration: its half-life is about 18 months; this means that after 18 months there will still be about half of the product used. This will allow individual retouching sessions to be held once a year.
Sculptra: implant technique
Sculptra is injected into the subcutaneous tissue or deep dermis with a thin needle. The product is associated with a small amount of anesthetic, to reduce the discomfort of infiltration.
The corrections of the imperfections of the face with poly-L-lactic acid provide very natural results, which adapt perfectly to the facial mimic: the treated area is again very “compact”.
Retouching sessions are necessary only after many months. The main advantage of this product, except the biodegradability and the long duration of the results, is the possibility to individualize the treatment, performing corrections on a specific district according to the patient’s desires.
Side effects (hematomas, edema, redness, infections, subcutaneous nodules) are similar to those of other commonly used fillers and affect less than 1% of treated patients.
